Have I finally cracked the Levain Bakery Cookie Code? I had my third attempt at duplicating the best cookie on Earth and this time I think I may have done it! I can now sleep soundly at night without tossing and turning over choc chips, walnuts and oven temps
My husband Paul and I first came across the Levain Bakery while on a 2 month expedition of the modern jungle which is New York City. Manhattan Island is my favorite destination and whenever I think of the time we spent there I long

By Susan, on October 29th, 2010 These are lovely delicate ginger sandwich cookies complete with double ginger filling. You could fill them with any flavor icing but I wanted an intense ginger taste. Can you have too much ginger? I have slowly become a huge ginger fanatic: ginger beer, ginger cookies, chocolate covered ginger, ginger cake, ginger ale – it is all fantastic! These sweet little cookies are addictive and you’ll find the batch will quickly disappear. My batch lasted a few hours….

By Susan, on October 5th, 2010 I like the store bought biscuit selection we have in Australia: Tim Tams, Mint Slices, Kingstons and who could forget the Monte Carlo. Monte Carlos are one of my grand mothers favorite biscuits, so I decided to bake her a batch for her birthday.

By Susan, on September 11th, 2010 It’s been three and a half months since I last stepped into my kitchen. I was secretly worried I may have lost my touch and would no longer be able to bake mouth watering sweeties, so when being invited to my Aunt’s place for friday night pizza I thought there was no better opportunity to face my fears.

By Susan, on May 7th, 2010 If you are looking for Boozy Brownies look no further, alcohol soaked prunes are added to these brownies and need to be soaked for 3 days before cooking These would be great at Christmas time! Forget the Christmas pudding – drunken, chocolaty brownies are here! Beware, these are VERY rich so 1 batch of brownies goes a long way

By Susan, on May 1st, 2010 This slice was my Mum’s request. It is a very common slice in Australia with almost every bakery offering it for sale. It was the first slice I fell in love with and wanted to bake. This version has a couple of variations from the traditional ‘Raspberry Coconut Slice’ you find around the place; firstly, I have used freshly grated coconut instead of the desiccated kind making it deliciously moist; and secondly, I have incorporated real raspberries, the tang of the fresh fruit is the perfect partner to the sweet raspberry jam and makes it very difficult to stop at just one piece!

This slice can be dairy free providing you use dairy free chocolate. It can be difficult catering for food intolerances at times and I always keep an eye out for good recipes. This is a very nice and easy chocolate-coconut slice

These are a UK goodie, a fair few members of my extended family have grown up in the UK and never having a real Jaffa cake myself I was curious to see how this homemade version would hold up. These went down extremely well…. so well, that I will double the recipe when making them from now on, one batch is just not enough!
