By Susan, on May 16th, 2013 If you are lucky enough to be driving around the Southside of Brisbane with a hunger craving that needs filing then look on further then Nikumaki Honpo. So, what is a nikumaki you’re thinking?
I first came across Nikumaki Honpo while being designated the task of picking up a lunch time pizza at the in-laws place a couple of months ago. As I whizzed past the little unassuming shop, the little meat wrapped rice parcels caught my eye and I ‘mental ‘ noted Nikumaki Honpo as a place to try.
Thank God I did! I love them! nikumaki are

By Susan, on January 23rd, 2012 If I’m honest with myself I would probably say I have a sugar addiction. It only takes a minute to look at the recipes on this blog to see that the majority of them are delectable sweet treats – all fabulous I might add! But there has been a quiet whisper around the place that sugar just might be BAD for you. Could it be so?
Surprisingly, I’m actually willing to find out. I’m going to do it – I’m going to try the ‘sugar free’ diet. Will it be a fad? A passing phase? Or a permanent change? I cannot say, but

Ahhh… Christmas has come and gone in a whirlwind once more and now we’re all left scrubbing our pots and pans with completely satisfied stomachs.
I was up early and enjoyed a festive morning of cooking for the big event ‘Christmas Day Lunch’. With just 5 of us, it was a small do at my place but of course there was enough food to feed twice as many (so no need to worry about cooking on Boxing day). My Dad holds the title of ‘expert ham picker’ and certainly didn’t disappoint! We all raved how it was the best Ham we’d eaten

This is a pizza on steroids! I was asked to review Crust’s newest addition to their menu: the ‘Chicago Deep Dish’ pizza $16AUD. I am a mad pizza lover and thought I knew all there was to know about this doughy delight. Whilst I was trying to co-ordinate this review, I was baffled by the name ‘Chicago deep dish pizza’ when it was being flung to and fro via email. How different could this pizza really be? I mean, what is left to explore in the world of pizza right? C’mon people – It’s a flat disc of dough with

So, every morning I wake up and rush outside to see the progress of the vege garden. The new growth of cucumbers, beans, peas etc seems to creep up on you – one day just a little flower, the next a pretty baby vegetable. It is the most exciting when you spot the first growth of a new vege. I have had little tomatoes & beans growing for a while and yesterday was the first time I noticed chilies and capsicums. I can’t wait to eat them!

It really feels like I have a mini farm these days. We have had our chickens for about 4 weeks now and I absolutely love them! It took a couple of weeks for the chooks to get settled and for me to get used to having ‘pets’ to take care of. These are my first since leaving my family home, so I guess it is safe to say these are MY first ‘pets’. I use the term ‘pets’ loosely… what defines a pet? These chickens are productive, they actually contribute to the household with their fresh eggs which is my

So I had an interesting Halloween this year: I baked the best cookies in the world and possibly the worst cookies in the world all on the same day. I’m not complaining though……………… I can’t be fantastic all the time right? LOL!
This was my first attempt at the Black and White Cookie, I tried my first one in New York and it was pretty good I really wanted to share this little piece of American pop-culture cuisine with my family and friends as the closest thing we have here in Oz is the Neenish tart – it looks the same in
